Okay, I now have about 1500 miles on the VN750. I'm thinking about taking a trip to North Carolina next week for a few days.
I live in Georgia, so the trip usually takes about 3 or 4 hours by car. I will take some 2 lane, some 4 lane, and some interstate.
How will the VN750 fair on this trip?
How will I feel after a 4 or 5 hour trip? (even at my age 56, I'm in better shape than most 56 year olds I know)
Riding will be; flat, hills and mountains.

The bike will perform great! I recenty went on as trip that was 1500 miles over a week. First was Va to Ohio, 9 hours stopped only long enough to pass the ATM at the pump, fill up and run again. Spent the weekend then headed for PA (another 9 hours) and fillups were the same. (I guess I did shut down for 5 min once to hit the restroom). Last leg a week later from PA back to Va (7 hours). I couldn't ask for a better running ride.
As far as how it might make you feel, my ass HURT! If youdon't have on yet, concider a throttle lock to give the arm a rest.
Have a good ride!

Hey! I will be making the trip from NC to Acworth (OK, Woodstock, but close enough) next month! I trust you're not going to take 85 all the way. Where in NC are you going? If you hop over to I-575 you can follow it all the way to Hiawassee or Young Harris and cut over to US-64 and thence to wherever you're going. Hate driving 85, even in a cage.
I'm up near the VA line. Unfortunately I'll be in FL next week otherwise I're try to meet up with you.
Hey Vince,
Just happened to look back at the forum before lunch.
I'll be leaving Acworth, going up 41 to 411 to Fairmount. Taking 53 over to Jasper, then 575/515 to Blue Ridge, then 60 to Mineral Bluff, then to Murphy, then to Andrews, Nantahalia, Cherokee, Maggie Valley.
I think we are going to try to leave Tuesday Morning? Maybe stay in NC for a Few days and get some riding in up in the Smokies.
My wife might want to take her V-Star; that way we could/would trade off riding on the way up and back (she says shes to short for the Vulcan), So the other will be in the truck behind with our daughter who is still not used to longer trips on the back of a bike.(she's only 6)
At any rate; I can see a ride to NC is gonna happen, but I can already feel 70 mph on 515 between Jasper and Blue Ridge!!!
Should be a pretty good ride, you know all those roads; they're pretty fun and good country roads, with not too much traffic.

I had the same questions before my Grand Canyon trip (my first long ride). Amazingly, I had less to worry about than I had feared. The first leg of that trip was 6 hours to Conway, Arkansas. It really helped that Dianna, Starr, and their 4-leged children were there to greet me. I only had the slightest drowsyness just before reaching Little Rock, but that disappeared quickly because I knew how close to my destination I was getting.
The point I made to myself was to listen to my body. If I had become too tired, I would have pulled over. In fact, later in my trip, I did just that. I pulled over so often while going through Oklahoma that I had to cut about 200 miles off of that day's ride. The important part was to arrive alive, not "on time."
I kept plenty of water in me at all times. I discovered that Red Bull is good stuff (even though it tastes like piss). And I took my time at every pit-stop.
Just enjoy the journey and the time will fly.
Take notes so you can recall the events for your ride report :)
Most importantly,
Ride safe.
