Well I hope Not, everyone ponied up $295 for it. Professional install and everything. I can't FORCE everyone to come over from the Yahoo group but I don't know how to make this forum more appealing than it already is. Yahoo absolutely sucks in my opinion but people seem to like getting thier daily deluge of mail in ther inbox to delete.

So that being said, what could I (we) do to make this forum/page more appealing? I haven't registed it with a search engine for now beacuse I wanted to keep a tight little group. BUT if that's what everyone wants, more people, I would be glad to do so.

I also need to make major modifications to the main site, I have been delinquent in that, just been crushed at wotk lately.

Suggestions welcome

I hope this forum is not dying out either. There are alwasys a few post when I check. I prefer this forum myself...at least for actually finding and getting information. But I admit I found myself posting on Yahoo more than here lately. :(

I really wish I knew what to say to make it more active. If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

Wow...$295...I will try to get my $5 donation for a patch to you ASAP.

I vote no. I check here a few times a day. There just isn't a lot of chit-chat.

Could we possibly give this subject a rest? I mean no disrespect to anyone but it seems like a third or more of the posts on this forum have been about the subject of posting here vs Yahoo. If Yahoo sucks so bad, do we need to tell folks or can they figure that out on their own? I keep saying "market forces" (supply and demand). Folks will gravitate to where they get what they need/want. I still read both and respond on both (think I'm about 4th on the list for most posts here).

For me personally I like having this forum for an archive and a reference source (especially since it doesn't break URL's!) and like the general BS on Yahoo. If this forum starts becoming the repository for the chit chat (1188 posts in the last 7 days on Yahoo!!!!) I fear the useful stuff will be buried and less accessible, just like it is on Yahoo.

OK, my 2 bits.

Continuing to beat on this dead horse. Yes I like them both. I think like most folks we have interest in many forums and we just get stretched thin at times. I too like the structure here for finding info and having data stored. I know the yahoo site does that as well. Just like it better here. M2CW
I like the Yahoo site as some have explained it is like being at the kitchen table and everyone just carrying on a conversation at once.
If we all gravitate to here and the Yahoo falls off, well time will tell.

I come to this site every couple days or so. I enjoy not being deluged by e mail. I also enjoy being able to find a post that I'm interested in, and not having 300 to 400 posts a day on one subject. (I might be a little high on those numbers) But I do wish that we could post pics here of bikes, trips etc. That would be fun.

We have 126 members of this forum, that is less than 10% of the other forum. Yet we have over 1300 posts so far, most of them quality posts, that is informative useful information that we can find. It will grow with time as people get use to finding information here, and adding to it like several members who participate on both boards are taking the extra time to do.

Maybe spence and I should go through and delete the non-essential stuff, at some point, but we have not discussed this yet.

Meanwhile, just continue to contribute as you have in the past and this will grow, slow but sure..

I have to agree with Unclegomer and Stargazer. This is s great location to look up the info we want/need, Yahoo is close to a chat room with it's banter and seemless responses (well, almost seemless).

I come here daily, even a couple times a day as I log in from work, and again sometimes when I get home. I also log in to the Yahoo group, and am constantly getting not available messages. Give it time.

I kind of took it for granted that people actually liked getting their daily dose of "chit chat" in their inbox. Personally I hated sifting through 150+ e-mails a day most of them just short responses to a single thread

I love the banter between people, I think it's great. If I can figure a way for everyone to get direct e-mails, would that be beneficial to everyone? Do you guys want to be like the Yahoo Group and get daily e-mails? what additional features would you like to see in this page? Pictures? digests? Chat Room?

Open to suggestions

I like the forums as they are. No emails, no digests. I get way enough email and spam now.

A place for pictures would be nice. Just set a limit for each user.

A gallery database is next on my hit list. we have well over 200mb of space available for it. The program I'm interested in is tightly integrated with Vbulletin and uses the MYSql database for authentication. Pictures can be automaticly thumbnailed and posted to a size limited folder.

Yes...A place for photos would be good. Also on e-mails from this forum, as I am sure most of you know, you have lots of choices. When you post a reply or start your own thread you can Choose to 1: "Not Subscribe" (You've read what you want and don't need to keep up with it anymore) 2: "No e-mail notification" (You subscribe so it is easier to find the thread when you log back on...but don't need to be notified when someone post) 3: "Instant e-mail notification" (If you want to get an e-mail as soon as someone post to the thread) 4: "Daily e-mail notification" and 5: "Weekly e-mail notification" are just like the instant except in frequency of course. I like the fact that you can pick and choose on each thread how you want to do this. On any thread I start or have real interest in I choose the "instant e-mail", if it is something I just want to keep up with I choose the "daily". If I just posted a note saying that joke was funny or nice pics and don't want to follow the thread I choose "Do not subscribe" or "No e-mail" You can set a default in your CP but can still change it on each thread. I know I didn't notice this at first simply because I didn't scoll down far enough...lol

I do feel the members on this forum are more active as RB said. I imagine a lot of the "members" on Yahoo joined, posted a message or two then haven't been heard from since.

Anyway...guess that was a lot of blah, blah, blah...but it was on my mind... I do try to keep up with both and post to both.

Spence...I think you've done a super job. This forum rocks! w/ simplicity and flexibility. I would like it if more of the Yahoo crew would post here...I would respond to many more posts than I do now. AAMOF, I try not to post @ yahoo! because of what UncleGomer says...the useful stuff is buried and unaccessable. I try to respond to the 'technical' or 'help needed' posts, not the BS posts that are so prevalent on Y!...it just gets buried I feel. No one reads my posts...!! ;)

I hope it's not dying out. I for one don't really feel like wading through Yahoo and as a result don't visit it too much anymore. It's just so unorganized and you have to check so many damn pages to follow a thread which changes topics/direction more times than I change my shorts.

No one reads my posts...!!
Hey that's my line! And I do read posts here. How else would I know if someone needed thumping *L*
BUT.. I don't respond to as many posts here because I can see in most cases where someone has responded and my post would just be redundant information then.
I have Vulcan Verses ready to go up on the Tech pages, Sign up sheets will be posted here for Kentucky Lake pot lucks (on a web page.. )
And that picture gallery would sure be a nice addition. A picture is worth a thousand words ya know.
That's my .03 worth!

Its good to see some people like it here, I love the orginization and as far as bantering, it wouldnt even get bad on here with that, it would stay contained in the thread rather than piling up on the floor like in yahoo, what a mess, need housekeeping!!! housekeeping LOL

I was going to post yet another response just like this one and the others I have already posted. I get my daily emails from here just like on yahoo. I don't see a problem. Just relax. I have said here and on yahoo that I prefer this format. Even for banter as stated above, there is room here for that and it will even be easier to follow. So lets all just take a chill pill and keep posting as needed. But I still want to know why the smileys off to the right here aren't displayed on either of the computers I use.

yep, I just checked all the possible areas and everything should allow them.

vB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is Off
HTML code is Off

They don't show up on this Windows pc at work or on my Mac at home. The smiley to the side of the entry box only show white box with red X and the text for the smiley. The set of Post Icons Just below this entry box are displayed though.

After you have said this two or three times...it has just dawned on me that mine aren't showing up. Now any post I make with them in the subjuect line shows them or if I type out the actual characters : ) for :) it works. But like you the buttons to the right of the box you type your message in don't show them, either at my work or home.

IIRC, the tiny limit on photos at the Yahoo site was the original issue that got talk of this site started.
If we are considering limits here, before we even get started, then ...... um ....dunno.

I was the one that mentioned the limits on pics. At the time I had no idea that there was TONS of space here. I was just trying to help by thinking ahead. It seems as if it had already been done. From my point of view there is no problem now.

We have over 250mb of space for pictures and more if we need it. I'm working on the gallery now. (I know been going on for weeks) and I really want it done sooner than later, that will bring more folks over.
