I got my license 2 weeks ago via MSF class. And just purchased a 1997 VN750 today. Any words of advice (maintenance/riding/storage, etc) would be welcomed!

I would recomend looking through the Vulcan Verses, alot of good info.
Get a Maint free Battory, Check you drive splines and get Sea Foam fuel additive. Other than that enjoy and ride.

I'd also add, put some silicone adhesive on the toolbox lock nut as well as the chrome swingarm caps. The have a tendency to show up missing after a ride.

Welcome Al, nice choice on your first bike! I wonder if you did some research or just happened on a 750 and liked it?
It's a great bike for beginners and seasoned riders both. Got plenty of power and still light enough to handle. Careful with the "go handle" though, especially at first.

Go through the Vulcan Verses and you'll find several things you should check right up front. As mentioned above, an MF battery, get some seafoam and check your splines. Spline procedure is on my site listed below if you want to use it. Also, you might want to plan on relocating your regulator from under the battery box in the near future. It gets mighty hot there.

Other than that, ride safe, and enjoy the good folks here!
