TrashLord 08-07-2006, 06:08 PM Hi all,
Just joined here and have been reading alot of the threads. Good people with good information from what I have seen so far. I just picked up a 1993 VN750 a week ago, great bike, very high mileage but going strong so far, was told when I bought it that original owner made trips every year from RI to OR. must have either been a tough guy or weighed 10 lbs...cuz dam my a#@ hurts after 50 miles lol. that seat is the first thing to go.

tankist 08-07-2006, 06:27 PM hi and welcome!
if you been reading you probably know the crucial points needed to be checked on our bike, right? well actually it doesn't matter, since you are going to read them here anyways :)
what do you consider very high milage for 93??
TrashLord 08-07-2006, 07:26 PM Hi,
It has 65,000 miles on it, so what do ya think? high mileage for the 750? seams to run strong to me, I would like to track down the original owner some day. I believe I am the 4th. and one of the first things I might do after reading here is the r/r relocate...sounds like a good idea.

cegodsey 08-07-2006, 09:47 PM 65K is a lot, but not unexpected if taken care of. Someone else on here has a bike with about 2K more. And a couple have over 100K.
First thing you should do is check and relube the driveshaft splines. Fergy has the link in his signature. If DMAG ever gets around to it, he might add fergy's link to the maintenance links.
The other thing is the Maintenance Free battery, but with 65K I would be surprised if it didn't already have one.
You'll need to get a voltage gauge if it doesn't have one. That way you can tell if you're regulator goes out (or is in the process of) and replace it before it takes the stator with it.
What else, guys?
Woody 08-07-2006, 09:52 PM Hell, if it's got 65k on it maybe it's had everything replaced already. Welcome to the forums and keep the shiny side up.
hyperbuzzin 08-08-2006, 05:41 AM My '99 has about 35K.
If I keep riding it like i do, I should have that much on it plus, by the time the bike is 13 years old.
Hope it keeps goin' that long !!
Welcome Trash.
As long as ya started reading alot on the site, you're off to a good start. The Vulcan Verses (http://www.vn750.com/forum/verses.php)have tons of useful info, so read them thoroughly.

MF battery
R/R relocate
volt meter
That's about it. Welcome to the forum. Ask lots of questions!
Hizzo3 08-08-2006, 11:32 AM for your seat, ccspinner redid his own foan with memory foam. He said it felt much better. That is just a "custom" job if you dont feel like paying for a new seat.
Also i would run sea foam through the tank to make sure that all the build up is gone. that stuff is majick :D
TrashLord 08-08-2006, 02:33 PM wow all the response...I like this site already! gonna hold off on the maintanance free battery for a little while...only because the day after I got the bike the battery quit and (before discovering this site) I already replaced it. The relocate and volt meter sound like a great idea..ok the battery does too... should be off of work soon for the winter gonna go over whole bike before spring hits unless I land a winter job. The only question I have for now about the bike is.....where the heck do I put my coffee cup?????LMAO

Well, since you asked: http://pages.tstar.net/~fergy/images/coffeevulcan.jpg
That's Billy Greer's rig from here in Texas and the tube is not for interveinous feeding, like it looks, but can be inserted under the face mask for on the fly sipping...
cegodsey 08-08-2006, 05:26 PM UH-OH! Your linketh don't worketh anymore, Fergeth!
fergy 08-08-2006, 05:40 PM Well dangeth! How bout now?

hyperbuzzin 08-09-2006, 03:56 AM Works for me now, don't know about earlier.
cegodsey 08-09-2006, 08:09 AM That is very interesting. What's that oxygen-hose-looking thing going around the seat? If I didn't know what the mug was for, I'd swear that the pic is of a medical device to allow hospital patients to ride!
TrashLord 08-09-2006, 08:27 AM That would work lol, I stopped at 7-11 yesterday morning and picked up a small coffee it fit in front of the speedo....I was afraid to try a 24 ounce cup...good thing work is only 1 mile from there lol

Ha! That would be funny.
I believe, but am not sure, that this is his fuel line, encased in flex tubing, coming from his home made extra fuel tank on the back of the bike. It ties into his main fuel line and is switchable on the fly, best I remember. He does tend to do long trips pretty often, although he's now touring with his wife in the cage for a month or so, due to August in Texas. Nuff said.
cegodsey 08-09-2006, 03:55 PM Yeah, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack on the way home from work. I can't imagine what you're up to, we're sitting on 100. With these temps, I'll need to fashion something like his mount soon.
fergy 08-09-2006, 04:04 PM I think it's about the same around here, but seems hotter every day cause everything is burning up. My yard looks like I did roundup over the whole thing. I saw a cooling vest the other day on the yahoo forum that you soak in water and it takes 4 hours to evaporate. Something I might try on a longer trip right now, but seems like a lot of trouble to ride to and from work!
TrashLord 08-17-2006, 01:39 PM Just got back from vacation in Maine...during the week we went to Bar Harbour for a day...walked around the shops on Main street...and I couldn't believe my eyes, I found a leather coffee cup holder that straps to the handle bar. it will fit a soda bottle or the type of cup without handles....aaaahhhh 7-11 coffee in the am once again.

rnewell 08-17-2006, 03:18 PM Now all you need is a donut bracket and your all set.
TrashLord 08-17-2006, 03:28 PM LMAO...nahh I quit the donuts...there is a maximum capacity to our bikes lol and I already need to keep 24 pounds of air in the shocks...hey ya know I kinda like saying it like that.
