I was off work today. This morning before the oppressive Savannah heat kicked in - I took in a glorious 2 hour ride this morning. Using my GPS I did not know where I was going but knew where I was. (Does that make sense?) All back roads I had never been on before. Rode by farm after farm in the SE Ga countryside. Saw a new side to the low country I had not seen in a long long time. On my return home I needed gas. Passed an out of the way country store with 1 pump out front. Ordinarily I do not stop at a place like this. I'll go to the all-look-alike-corporate-food/gas store. You know the type.
I was just a few miles from needing to go to reserve and the price was the lowest I have seen for gas around here in a long time. So...I stopped. And am I ever glad I did! What a discovery this was. A true step back into time. A country store like you would see on Green Acres or Petticoat Junction. This place was even Biker Friendly. Had a covered area with tables/chairs on the front porch and had a sign - "Covered area is for Bikers Only". Yippee! I spent some time wandering around taking it all in and then left. My step back in time over. I will remember this route and make this store one of my regular watering holes from now on. Only on a motorcycle can one have such a grand time of just riding through the back country. It refreshed my soul.
