I reversed my ears for cool air flow into the carbs.
It ran without trouble the first day out, but the winds were calm.
Then the second day out the winds were rough and I kept thinking the bike felt funny at 65 mph. Even at times I felt I was slowing down when a crosswind was present. I kept passing it off as my Imagination, or I was letting off the throttle due to wind shake. but after days of similar results, I switched my ears back and even in cross winds I dont feel the power loss.
I Imagine what was happening was the cross wind was either pressurizing or acting as a venturi and vacuming the air supply to the carbs. The long and short of it, I believe I will leave my ears the original way.

I have mine reversed also. I haven't noticed what you mentioned, but maybe haven't encountered the wind thing yet. I will keep watch for it. I will probably put mine back anyway, as I have not noticed any real difference in the way the bike performs, and it's not that difficult to do.

I also switched mine back for that reason, as well as I didnt see any improvement.
I felt the filters would be exposed to more dirt and trash that otherwise would be parted by the bikes body.

could also be possible my trouble was the little carb bown vent tube on the left got a little kinked, but not sure if this was blocked or not. fyi.
anybody have a dyno to test if this ear switch does any good or that goats belly helps anything?

A Dyno test? That would be extremely exotic on this bike/forum. We seem to be a frugal bunch and really enjoy the bargain that the VN750 is. I'm on other forums where dyno results are posted every other day but that is for a performance bike.

Frugal?? There a re list of SO's (including my own) who would rgue that proposition with you!!! The dyno is just out-weighed by our need for CLAP. Besides, I kinda looked at dyno tests and burn outs as silly (somethign about compensating for being embarassed in the locker room)

Frugal or not, there just isn't much of an aftermarket for our beloved VN750 so ya really can't spend that much. You should come by Royal Oak, MI on a Wed night (cruiser night) and see what folks spend on their scoots. It's truly amazing - My used '96 cost me less than what many guys spend on wheels and pipes.

you know I'm just messing wit ya right? No offense intended.
Despite the lack of aftermarket specifically designed for the VN7xx I wonder if I will ever run out of things to spend $$ on for the bike? Probably so. I think maybe that's what happened to Greg and Jax? Bought everything they wanted for their bikes and had to move on?
