just bought a 1985 vz 750 vulcan bin told everything is the same as a vn can anybody confirm this it is a jap import also noticed the battery has a wire with inline fuse in it connected but does not connect to anything else and cannot see anywhere it could go any advice ......cheers

Prob an aftermarker device that was once on the bike. Follow the wire and see where it leads.
