: I hope more Yahoo members come here!
Bruce 07-09-2004, 08:26 AM This new forum is great but I'm hoping more of the Yahoo group migrates over here. I have a feeling that many on the Yahoo group are content with it because they aren't members of a forum of this type and don't realize how much more useful this is.
Any thoughts on the subject?
Knuckles 07-09-2004, 08:37 AM I agree. There are so many nights I can't get to the yahoo forums. I don't like the emails of the postings. I check the forums from both home and work. Here it remembers what you've read and is VERY easy to follow a thread.
dennisinmd 07-09-2004, 11:02 AM I still use both. Different ways of looking at things, both OK. It does appear that Yahoo seems to have some performance problems. Get not available at times, and verrrrry slow at others.
Flemdog 07-09-2004, 11:50 AM I use both. I don't have the Yahoo emails. I read direct off the Forum which makes it easier to use for me. I don't have to wade through all those emails everyday. Flemdog

No actually I'm a member of at least 3 forums similar to this format (on Delphi). Don't check them more than weekly. I still prefer the Yahoo group solely because of the option for individual e-mails. JMO, YMMV
But as I said before, the content will be what attracts folks, not the bells and whistles. When the info and camaraderie here approaches that found every day on the Yahoo group, the members will follow.
I too will continue to follow both groups, because we are essentially the same family, kind of like in-laws.
This type of forum was what I intitially was exposed to, so for the technical aspect of info exchange and ease of use, it is like coming home after moving away for a while.
But the Yahoo Group and its crazy, free for all email system, is like being at a huge family gathering with everyone in the house talking at once about all kinds of things. It really feels like a family reunion or holiday gathering.
This forum does seem to be easier to get specific info because of the ability to break out the subject headings, but for me and my fire department schedule, I can down load a couple of days worth of emails from yahoo and read / reply to them while at the station, so that when I plug the laptop back in at home, my replies are then sent. But I can't log onto this forum while at the station.
Just let it be, this forum will hold its own as time goes on, and the yahoo group will contiue to be more of a family reunion atmosphere where you can just sit back and look around the room at all the family and just smile, enjoying the closeness of the common denominator, be it blood lines or bike models.
Just relax and let them grow into their own identities. If you notice, I am in the top ten for joining this forum. I plan to use both.
Ride on fellow enthusiasts.
UncleGomer 07-09-2004, 02:33 PM Well said, Hoot.
I agree this format is INFINITELY easier to find past posts or specific info than Yahoo. And that brings me back to my original cranky point from last month -- or actually last year when Spence first registered VN750.com for us.
I understood the purpose of this separate website was to archive and store technical info (and by that I include our personal mods in addition to various spec stuff) in an easier-to-use form, as well as be able to post pictures, etc without the space limitations of Yahoo. I don't know that a forum method is the best way to do that, but I can see that it would relieve the burden on Spence, Dianna, RB and a small group of others since they don't have to convert as much stuff to HTML.
Seems though that a lot of folks want this to REPLACE Yahoo as our community forum. JMO but as much I as like reading the jokes in the Comedy Club, is that something that we really want or need stored forever? I'd love it if, instead, folks were posting some of the golden oldies from the group (what's a goats belly, what are the best batteries, etc) so that (1) we have a place to refer folks to, (2) new folks can scan the 'stickies' and avoid asking questions that have been answered 100 - times - not that there's anything wrong with that - and (3) even us 'veterans' can find stuff when we need it -- I'm fixing to go search for the part number of the Super Tech oil filters we like from WalMart; be much easier if it was over here.
OK, said my piece. I'll shut up now (at least until the next time someone posts how wonderful this forum is and why don't we stubborn folks over on Yahoo get our tails over here <G>)
bardat 07-15-2004, 06:33 PM I still lurk on the Yahoo group, I get the daily digest (usually 25 messages) and skim through pretty quickly. It's easier than wading through hundreds per day. It is nice though, to "sit in" on the friendly banter going on. I usually relay the good and the bad highlights to my Wife. We pray for those who need it, and laugh and learn with the rest.
I do like the organization of technical info here, and it's easier to follow certain threads. They both have merits, and I'm glad to be a part of them both!
spence 07-15-2004, 09:50 PM Well If I get off my butt, this site will be even more functional. I'm struggling with the photo gallery, I guess I'm going to have to break down and buy one
borisow 07-18-2004, 09:28 AM From experience with the switch-over on the WARB board, the way to get more folks here is to only participate in this board.... especially the high profile members. Coax the others over and as migration occurrs, eventually the old board becomes more of a repository than anything else. But its really a function of what you want each board to be and where you're happy. I'm staying put here personally, but that's just me.
On a lighter, less opinionated note ;), I rode with Rich DiFiorre yesterday, and he didn't know w had a new board (he's been out of the loop). So I sent him the link and hopefully we'll see him here. He's got the same '00VN750, except he eclipses my 23k with a counter reading over 35k - the guy loves criusing from So PA up into the Catskills & Adirondacks. Red Baron et l, you may want to get in touch with him for a future ride!
Bruce 07-18-2004, 10:56 AM Tony,
What is the WARB board?
Red Baron 07-18-2004, 07:29 PM Name sounds familiar. I haven't been over to the catskills yet on my bike. Skirted the western edge a few fridays ago when I just went out on a 6 hr 200 mile ride. Thanks for mentioning Rich, I'll have to get in touch with him..

beavis 07-18-2004, 09:53 PM I have been relying solely on this new forum, if it goes on only on yahoo, I probably miss it, so somebody come and tell me if it is good, ok, but I hope others will join in here, this is so much easier than reading massive e-mail digests, or fumbling to look up a past post somebody is refering or replying to way later on.
I think here is best and keep the yahoo as a meeting place as a backup if this goes down or something, keeping a big post that says new members come to VN750.com forum!!!!
and far as the old files- I can say how to remedy this, set up a ftp user acessable folder to dump them in and put up a page with links to the files for technically challenged users.
that is all....
just my opinion
Beavis
