Well, I went about changing the oil on a newly aquired VN 750 as a matter of routine when aquiriing a used machine. Oil was indicating well above the sight glass so, I figured it was overfilled.
Put it on the center stand and chg'd the oil & filter. Put in a gallon of oil and ck'd the glass. -Overfilled?? Started it again and ck'd- barely on the bottom! Waited a couple of min.s to settle. Appears overfilled again??
My question is do you ck the oil on that glass while running or static(not running)?

Check it after it has run for a while and then off for a few minutes (static) with the bike on the centerstand. If overfilled, you can back off the side drain, which is the only one you should use to drain the oil, and let some out. There is a washer, spring, and screen inside this plug. You should pull the screen out every time to examine it. If you find foreign objects on the screen, there may be a problem.

suggestions and tech support part of this site is actually about the site. Your question should be in engine/exhaust/cooling section anyways checked with engine off after warmed up. when running you won't see anything in the sight glass.
