First, I'm assuming that you've taken and passed the local MSF skills course. If not, then start there. Then try MEETUP.COM (http://www.meetup.com) or ask at the local motorcycle dealerships to find established motorcycle riding groups in your area. Riding in a group is a good way to improve your skills, but always ask what level of skill is required for each ride and let the group leader know your skill level. A good group leader will help develop your skills, while keeping you out of harms way.

Welcome to the Vulcan madness again Barb. I admire you for having the courage and desire to ride your own bike. The Vulcan 750 can be a handful for any new rider, and especially a woman of average height and strength.

I`m too far away to ride with you, but as you mention you are a 1st time rider looking for more experience, maybe you could tell those who are closer a little more about your present experience and qualifications.

Do you have any street riding experience at all? Or just parking lot practice (PLP)?

How does the bike fit you?
Can you flatfoot it on at least one side when you are stopped?
At a stop, can you push the bike back up with one leg from a 10 or 15* tilt to one side or the other when seated on it?

I am really not nosey, just trying to help potential riding buddies get to know you a bit and judge if you are prepared to ride with them on a particular route they may have planned, or if some changes may be needed.

If you fill out your profile so your location of Charlotte NC shows on every post, you may find some riders nearby to buddy up with.

EDIT: OK, slow on keyboard here. Chris covered some stuff I did, so I deleted it. He also offers some better options for group rides. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Here are some group riding tips that may be helpful for you too:

Hey Barb,

There is a chapter of the Vulcan Riders Association in Charlotte. Unfortunately I don't have any contact information, but I do know they are on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.vra and there is a national VRA forum where they also have a presence http://vulcanriders.us/Forum/. I'm sure some of them will be riding when the weather permits.

I will be moving to Hickory, NC in about a week. I need to look up the Charlote.VRA club on Facebook.

There are a couple of other NC riders on the forum. And there is a NC 'social group' under the 'community' link. carolesteven, there is a lot of great riding near hickory, up towards boone and of course, the blue ridge parkway. Also if you guys ever make it out towards Asheville let me know, the infamous Dragon and many other rides out this way.

Hello Barb
I live in Columbia and perhaps we can ride sometime.
I quit biking back in 1984 after having 9 different bikes.
I found a great deal on this 2003 Vulcan.
drop me a line if you want to ride.
