Is it me or is the site slower than it was? Really took a while to go from one post to another.

I noticed that it was slower last week sometimes too, but it wasn`t just on this site. I blamed it on my computer or the internet connection. I do notice today that this site is still balky though.

I've noticed our new, nice big bright animated (bandwidth sucking) advertisements from all of my favorite retailers.... because that is what vn750.com was missing all along (we need an emoticon for :-| sarcasm)

To be fair, DMAG had asked for a volunteer to take his place. When no one stepped forward, it was inevitable that the site would fold or be taken on by a business interest. We were fortunate to be ad-free for so long! I don't like the ads either, but I'm glad the site's still live. Still, it is downloading VERY slowly...

I was under the impression that there were non-commercial interests in taking over the site. There was a thread going on this topic (a new host search) but I can't find it now. Hmmm, conspiracy! :lockd:

Don't want to get into politics, but that "we need a change" slogan rings a bell and look where that got us. lol

Excuse me, but I was under the impression there was someone who was volunteering to take over the site. If it didn't work out, I had volunteered to do it. I never heard back from anyone.

At any rate, I don't mind the ads to keep this site free. Some of us don't have the funds to put up right now to help out. Shared revenue with Google ads is a good way to go. I haven't noticed slow down on my end.

Usually, with a paid membership, many of the ads are disabled or atleast not animated. Not so here.

So "Site Supporter"s paid for a 20 year subscription, right?

X2 on yahoo group, other vulcan sites, we need to get the word out before it's too late! I feel impending censorship, this thread might not be here for long...

Maybe VS (Dwayn) will chime in here; I feel that they have some explaining to do. If enough members leave the site, their investment goes down the pipes. Senior members should have a bargaining chip here.

Am I the only one who noticed in the announcement he SOLD the forum to VS. Not transferred not free like it was offered here for someone to take over and keep it community owned. It raises a few questions.

Hmmm, maybe there was a change of plan to sell the site to an entrepreneurial outsider rather than pass it for free within the VN750.com "family." I certainly have no "insider information!" And, at this early stage, I don't have much of an opinion about the changes, other than I'm annoyed to see pop-up ads from Roadrunner Sports and freecreditscore.com.

Guys and Gals,

Don't bring out the pitchforks and torches just yet. :)

There were two offers from members to help maintain the site back a couple months ago. At the same time the deal with VS appeared. I had to weigh my choices and in the end, I went with the choice that provided the best resources and future-proof for VN750.com. I know VS's background and have seen their other websites and the immense backing of a community of other motorcycle related websites. The choice to me was apparent that this was best choice for VN750.com. (Sorry no black helicopters or conspiracies!) I really hope you see it that way as well.

Give Dwayn and the folks from VS a chance before you assume things are going to change for the worse. In this thread I've already seen multiple assumptions that are being taken as fact. I did my homework and visited quite a few websites they have taken ownership of and see plenty of happy members. They also offer things I would never be able to the membership as well.

So instead of jumping ship, give Dwayn a chance to get the website together. It's only been a day. Let him know what you'd like to see (more perks for supporters as you guys mentioned above, etc...). They do want you to be happy and so do I. But let them know what you expect first!

Remember when I took over the website from Spence way back when. You guys did not know me or my intentions back then. We've really flourished in the years since. Give VS the benefit of the doubt that they can continue down the same road.

Feel free to PM me anytime guys. I want this to be enjoyable for you and something that benefits you now and in the long run.

Cheers.

You were one of us though, we knew you. That is where the difference lies. I am not saying it is going to be worse or better. I just hope it stays here. For those in remote locations or those who still use dial up I can see where the animated ads are a problem.

I have a 6 yr old notebook at work, and a 6 yr old machine at home. I haven't noticed any speed issues. My work notebook only has 512 mb of memory to boot.

What bothers me right now is that Dwayn hasn't posted anything at all. I would expect this unrest to at least make him chime in and say something.

The ads are definitely making it slower for me, my ISP is completely retarded and I'm definitely noticing a slow down. Not enough to really worry about it, but it's noticeable.

No I don't remember that far back but did you have to pay Spence for the site?I saw at least two members that appeared qualified that did offer to take over.I don't blame you it has had to have been a hassle to do all that it takes to keep something like this up and running. But don't take a leak down my collar and tell me it's raining, you sold it and made some money as most would have done.It is what it is.Thanks for all you did do for as long as you did.we owe you a our thanks for a job well done .Dwayn, I don't owe any thing. He bought something and expects to make money on it.On us, the members who have knowledge and experience and that is what made this site popular and be worth buying and enable him to sell ads on it.

Some feel like they are being thrown overboard, call it jumping ship if you want.

Yes, I did. Actually spent more on the site then my VN. It was worth every penny as well. :smiley_th

Sorry you feel that way Denny. That's simply not the case or reasoning. I've explained above, so no need to rehash. However, I understand that something like this isn't easy to comprehend when you aren't privy to everything that has transpired...but I will say nobody is taking a leak down your collar. I've previously spoken with the one member that I had begun talking with in regards to maintaining the site and they were fully on board with the decision. I did not take any of this lightly.

Hey Everyone,

I can certainty look into what we can do about slowdown problems. The site functionality will get better over time. Unfortunately, it will not happen overnight. I will do my best to keep the site moving forward. So if you have any concerns send me a pm or let me know.

I have looked into it and ads for the existing supporting members will be tuned off. I will have to look into why the yahoo group was taken off in the first place. So I will let you know about that.

Thanks,
Dwayn

In addition to the ads, slowness is caused by excessive stuff getting loaded, like unnecessary signatures and avatar pictures, etc... it all adds up to wasted bandwidth.

If by resources you mean banner ads and Google Analytics, and by future proof you really mean future profits, then I totally agree that you made the best choice for vn750.com (oops, I meant the best choice for yourself).

No hard feelings, you did a lot of good things for vn750.com, just sad to see a good thing change (for the worse).

Oh and Dwayn, you lost this: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/vn750/:hitanykey

So are you suggesting that members still need to send $20 to support the costs with the vn750.com website? (http://www.vn750.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1773)

I am not "complaining" for my own benefit. Check my stats, I'm not on the site as often as a lot of you all: I am concerned about the future of vn750.com for the entire group of members. But since some of you all seem satisfied and several people have voiced their concern with my position on this thread, I'm done posting on this topic. Send me a PM if something comes up.

Cheers!
