: There's a new Sheriff in town!
http://www.vn750.com/images/misc/vn750logos/vn750logowinner.jpg
Hello everyone,
I wanted to let you all know that I have recently sold the website to Vertical Scope (VS), the group that runs Motorcycle.com (http://www.Motorcycle.com/).
As most of you know, I haven't had the time to invest in maintaining the site in the way it or you members deserve. I'm positive the great folks at Vertical Scope will give VN750.com the attention it deserves and will be much more responsive to issues that arise from daily use. They have a vast number of resources and their tech group is a bunch of enthusiasts as well.
VS isn’t planning any major changes and are only really taking over the technical duties at this point in time. They are also welcoming the current moderator staff with open arms (Dianna still is the heart of VN750). So this isn’t goodbye for me, it’s just a turnover of control for the better of the community.
Our new tech contact will be a gentleman by the name of Dwayn who will be using the handle “administrator”. He will be monitoring everything moving forward, and he is also a motorsports enthusiast. He is also interested in photography.
With all that said, I want to thank you all for being the best group of people around! This community is definitely unique and the last few years have been great! I appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and commitment to making VN750.com one of the most vibrant and helpful communities I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. I am looking forward to an even better community moving forward.
Thank you, everyone, for the memories. Here’s to many more years of success for VN750.com!
Keep the shiny side up!
Anthony “DMAG”
93VN750 11-29-2010, 02:40 PM Anthony there is no doubt you would do what is best for this forum, it is afterall your "baby". You got it to where it is and we are all greatful.
Jon
baldy 11-29-2010, 03:33 PM Thank you DMAG for your years of making this site what it is, along with other members. I have only been here for a short period of time but from the start I said that this site is awsome and you and the generously helpful members on here make it that way.
flitecontrol 11-29-2010, 04:09 PM Thanks for all you've done and for handing it over to competent folks!
Joking About 8 11-29-2010, 06:28 PM Just want to put it out there that this sight rocks! and thanks to you, DMAG, and everybody else that have helped make it that way. With the help of this website and of course a little wrench time, I know my bike in and out, which makes me love it that much more. I know with the participation from all the members on here, this site will continue being the best.
hyperbuzzin 11-29-2010, 06:49 PM From one who's been here since the start of it all, you've done the site well, DMAG!! (and of course you too Dianna!!) :smiley_th:smiley_th:smiley_th
We can only hope VS can fill your shoes. And since you have good things to say about them, they must be worthy of the position.
So, here's to the handing over of the badge to the new Sheriff, to Vertical Scope. http://planetsmilies.net/person-smiley-9569.gif
Welcome to our little corner of the Internet. :beerchug:
OlHossCanada 11-29-2010, 08:55 PM Thanks for all you have done DMAG and Dianna. I`m looking forward to many more years of gleaning info from this group.
A new sherriff eh,... you sure his name isn`t Faron (Young that is, for any not conversant with country music from the late 1950`s to about 1990.)
administrator 11-30-2010, 12:12 PM Hello Everyone,
Dwayn here from motorcycle.com. I will be joining the admin team here and look forward to learning from you all and having some fun.
Let me know if you have any questions or want to chat about anything.
Thanks.
Dwayn
EasyRector 11-30-2010, 02:20 PM Anthony, thanks for everything. This site has been exceedingly useful and fun for me. And I'm deeply appreciative that it will continue.
EasyRector 11-30-2010, 02:21 PM Hello Everyone,
Dwayn here from motorcycle.com. I will be joining the admin team here and look forward to learning from you all and having some fun.
Let me know if you have any questions or want to chat about anything.
Thanks.
Dwayn
Welcome, and thanks!!!
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I know that the site is in very capable hands now and that is the most important thing for me. Having the backing of Dwayn, motorcycle.com and the great tech group of VS is like doing the Grambo trick on the website! :)
I'm really looking forward to great things for VN750.com and all of you.
km60155 11-30-2010, 03:41 PM DMAG - Thank you for a wonderful and informative site. I think that you have done a great job. I wish you the same success in your future endeavors!
Dianna - Glad you're staying! Someone's gotta keep Dwayn in line!
Dwayn - You have got some big shoes to fill! But welcome, you have just joined a very unique forum. I'd like to think that your new job is like hitting the proverbial jackpot for professional forum administrators. And on that point, can you start with a more colorful call sign? (I guess "administrator" says it all, huh?) On a more serious note: Can you give us an idea of the future direction that VS is planning to take vn750.com?
slimvulcanrider 11-30-2010, 05:45 PM The same Motorcycle.com that banned me from referring people to this exact sight... hmmm how ironic.
Gemguy 11-30-2010, 10:09 PM Thank you for all you have done DMAG and Dianna. You guys created one of the most wonderful spaces on the web and did it with a lot of class. Wishing you a great deal of luck and success in the future.
Welcome Dwayne, hopefully we can grow to be as fond of you as we all are of Anthony.
Dianna, super happy to have you staying with us.
GIMPYRDR 12-01-2010, 09:26 AM X2 on the thank you's Dmag. Dianna glad you're still here. Dwayn welcome to the site.
psvines 12-01-2010, 06:30 PM Is it just my imagination or are there more advertisements now on the site? I don't mind them, and fully understand the need for them to help pay the expenses of running such a wonderfully useful site. Just wondering if others have noticed.
flitecontrol 12-01-2010, 08:31 PM Oh yeah.
administrator 12-02-2010, 12:06 PM Thanks everyone for the welcome. I hope I can make you all proud.
Dwayn
wib714 12-02-2010, 07:25 PM first thing I noticed was the ads, as long as they dont slow the forum down and helps keep it going so be it, and at least they look like they are bike related!
dmag, good luck with your future plans and hope you pop in from time to time but I cant believe you couldnt hold out till that 10,000th member which at the rate we're growing won't be long, wow 10,000 vn 750 riders!
ksmnet 12-03-2010, 01:57 AM I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. The site is going to stay, and that's what's important. I don't blame anyone for running ads to get revenue. You gotta pay for bandwidth, and when a site gets as much traffic as this one gets, that's not cheap. There's also plenty of time involved in maintenance and upgrades. DMAG already said he put more time in on the site than he did on his bike. Although, I think if he had gone the ad route, he might have been able to generate enough revenue to maybe even make it a full-time job keeping the site up. Can't say for sure, because I don't know the site stats.
Dianna 12-03-2010, 07:21 AM Thank you DMAG, and welcome Dwayn.
Also thanks to everyone else that helps make this site what it is.. one of the best resources for information on our rides!

VoIP Doc 12-03-2010, 09:57 PM thank you dmag, and welcome dwayn.

^^^ x2 ^^^
Anarking 12-06-2010, 04:18 PM The same Motorcycle.com that banned me from referring people to this exact sight... hmmm how ironic.
and the ads. it's just the beginning. hey folks, i tried. the almighty dollar wins again. oh well, peace.
Dianna 12-06-2010, 08:10 PM Maybe it's just me, but I don't find the ads to be that intrusive, considering the price we pay for the site and what we have all gotten out of it.
As far as advertising for another site without getting approval from the site first.. Well that is pretty common. Can think of several sites where you would be shown the door. However, a quick note to the site administrators asking for approval before is usually given consideration.
The VN750 yahoo group and this site are exceptions since they are sister sites, founded by some of the same people.
Don't shoot the horse before it even gets out of the gate. I can remember some of the same concerns when DMAG was given the helm and not many knew him..
Just sayin'....
km60155 12-06-2010, 08:38 PM The VN750 yahoo group and this site are exceptions since they are sister sites, founded by some of the same people.
Great point, so where did the yahoo group link go?.....

Let me get this straight: So everytime a member wants to reference another website we need to ask for approval or risk being "shown the door"?
slimvulcanrider 12-06-2010, 08:41 PM I can understand spamming and such from another sight, but when some one has a similar problem on here, as some one else is having on another forum, and you post a reply that worked from one forum to the other, and then get banned because you listed the source for the info... that is just plain bad business on a self help forum.
If that should arise on this forum as well, this is one member that will be asking to get the boot again... But I don't see that happening here. as for the adds, the only time they bother me is when I am on my linux box.... it doesn't like adds very much.
Great point, so where did the yahoo group link go?.....
Dwayn already mentioned in another thread he is getting it back up.

No, I believe Dianna was simply making a point. However advertising another website (for commercial gain) without permission is most often a no-no on any website.

DMAG, funny you should bring up commercial gains on this thread....
Slim, were you making some type of commercial gain advertising vn750.com over there at motorcycle.com? If so, I can see why they would have kicked you off!

Yes, funny!

I was not referring to Slim's incident when I was advising about advertising, simply pointing out the obvious. I agree that community self-help posts that link to other community websites should not be censored.

No I was not making any kind of gain monetary or other for referencing VN750.ccom on the "other" forum. I am not going to get into great detail, but I was given three strikes... one strike for posting a link back to this sight to help a person with a problem (don't remember what off the top of my head), strike two was posting a link to TOC Manual Cam Chain Tensioners (but accidentally put in the link for the service manual, so i was displaying copy-write material for free), and strike three was about my scribd pages (more precisely the one about the genuine KF&S catalog)... The first two made me upset.. the last one made me irate, since I went to a lot of trouble talking to Mother Kawa and getting all the licensing bs so I could post it legally, and it is listed as reference material only... you can not order anything from the document.
DMAG and I had a talk about all of this and assures me it won't happen here. Dianna is still going to do most of the work on this site. so we shouldn't have too much to worry about.
Dianna 12-07-2010, 12:16 AM The yahoo link is here..

LibertyPilot 12-07-2010, 09:56 AM Thank you to everyone who makes this fantastic site what it is. I really appreciate all you've done for us over the years. I've made several modifications and upgrades to my bike as a brand spankin' new rider and I used nothing but this site. I've also made several good friends. I really appreciate all you've done here.
Welcome Dwayne, thanks for taking the reigns! :smiley_th

Thanks,
Dwayn
flitecontrol 12-09-2010, 03:26 PM Thank you, Dwayn.
km60155 12-09-2010, 05:16 PM Well, I'm sure it took a lot of hard work and long nights, but thanks for persevering!

Actually, Dwayn has been working very diligently to make sure the links are valid and he has permission of the owners to post them here. Since I am also an Owner of the VN750 Yahoo group, he didn't have to wait too long for the ok ;)
administrator 12-09-2010, 08:38 PM The yahoo group link has been re-added.
It is located on the main site page under site Navigation on the left.
Thanks,
Dwayn
VN750Rider/Jerry 01-03-2011, 09:29 PM First of all, I do not post here very much anymore, having traded my Vulcan 750 for a '97 Harley Road King. But I did ride Vulcan 750s for 18 years, two of them, a '93 and an '02. I managed to rack up over 130,000 miles on the two of them together.
I like and trust Dianna. She is a good person. I don't know you Dwayn, but Slim's issue bothers me.
I also own a Honda motorcycle, which I've had for almost 2 years, and belonged to a forum for that particular model for almost a year, and had over 2,000 posts on that forum without a single incident. Not once did I break the rules. Then the forum changed owners, and I wound up getting banned, even though I still did not break any rules. Though I can't post there anymore, I still read it once in a while, and since the new owner took over, it has definitely gone downhill. In fact I just read a comment on that forum about it, from a moderator, who is also a member here. I won't mention any names, that is not my way. I'm not out for revenge. I found another forum for that motorcycle, and things have been fine there. But it still irks me that I put so much time and effort into the other forum, only to get banned by a new owner, who obviously does not know how to run a motorcycle forum.
I am not saying the same thing is going to happen here, if Dianna says this guy is ok, he probably is. But I have seen bad things happen on more than one forum when they changed owners. It will be interesting to see what happens here. Jerry.
scuba 02-12-2011, 08:05 PM It's interesting Ibelong to vulcan riders association and had a question about floor boards. And everyone told me to check out this site. Turns out I am already a member here. And after I posted my question had the response and information i needed. This is a great website!
qxinfinity 01-24-2012, 02:55 PM Have I've been sold as a slave to "VS"? Where are my Internet rights.:lockd: Why have you forsaken us Oh Lord Steve Jobs. Have I not pleased you by buying as many expensive over priced Apple products as I can.:hitanykey
Either way it's nice to see the baton of VN 750's has been passed along.:smiley_th We hope our new masters are as kind and caring as our old masters were. You will be missed.:(
