I was looking through the threads on here and I noticed one where a chat room was attempted once upon a time. It would be nice to see a chat room type of thing going on here again. vBulletin has the chat room add-on that would be cool if we could give it a try and see how it works. Just an idea I had to share with ya'll.

Not a bad idea, anyone else interested? Does anyone else like the thought of "real-time" chat?

I'd be in favor of that.

Chat would be a good thing so maybe someone that needs help can get it in real time. I'm for it.

Might be great for tossing around fabrication ideas, or a repair walkthrough

Never been on a chat room myself, but it sounds interesting. I`d be willing to give it a try.

The ones for this forum software is actually pretty nice. It's got the mini chat bar that shows up at the top portion of the page just below the action bar, and then you have a option to click it into a full screen chat room. If anyone wants to see a picture of it I can post one up here to give an idea of it. I ran one on my old site since it was released, and everyone seemed to love it.

Here's a screen shot of what it looks like. I did erase the chat that was in the box but left the names in there to give the example on how it looks. It's called chatbox

I think it could be a lot of fun. but, most of all it could be a really good thing for those that need help in real time! this way one could take their lap top out to the garage and work on the bike at the same time.

That is a good point.

OK, let me look into it. The last time I looked into something like this...there was a lot of complaints (from other websites that use stuff like this) that it slows down the rest of the website (some of the chatroom software, when integrated into the forum software is not optimized that well....which in turn slows everything else down).

I'll take a look!

On another site I run, LXForums, we use an Mirc chatroom and just tie it into a popup window. However, it does not share your username and profile across the two programs...so it is not integrated with your profile here.

Either way, let me see what I can find out.

I got a membership at that site, and I can't run that chat program. I'll send you a PM with a website that uses that chat thing I'm talking about.
