: Is it paint or is it a decal?

Hello to All,
I was lucky enough to run across a 1998 Vulcan 750 in June2001. I knew nothing about how popular they are nor about the fact that they are such a long running model nor how happy I would be with it. The price was right, it was the original owner and it had only 2065 miles on it. It looked a little rough because it was not polished, one of the Vulcan 750 emblems on the chrome cover was partially missing (the owner told me his dog chewed it off) and there was the beginning of surface rust on some of the bolt heads and the protective bars on the exhaust system covers. Anyway, it looks like new now and has 8400 miles on it.

There is one thing I have wondered about from time to time and especially today. We had a rainy day in Massachusetts so I spent part of the day cleaning, conditioning the seat and polishing the Vulcan. So, anyway, what has me wondering is whether the Candy Wine Red on the Black gas tank is paint or is it a decal? I really like the color scheme of the 1998 (and many other model years for that matter) but I cannot tell if that is paint or if it is a decal or is just the gold pinstripe around the Candy Wine Red a decal or is none of it a decal but just a good paint job? Does anyone know for sure whether Kawasaki paints the tank or uses decals? I suppose that all I have to do is check the parts list and then I would know but just wondered if anyone who follows this forum knows for sure?

By the way, thanks for the VN750 forum. Lots of good information in here for those of us who are VN750 owners and riders.

Sam the pinstripe is a decal that is cleared over, Thats the way every other one I have seen. The color is paint but the pinstripe is a sticker. Congrats on the new bike I have been enjoying mine for a while now.

Hope this helps

Hi Chad,
Thanks for responding to my question about whether the gas tank is paint or decal. A bit of both I see, red paint, gold pinstripe decal. Glad you are enjoying your Vulcan as well. I know that I really like mine. By the way, I guess the note that I posted was not too clear. I have owned the Vulcan since June2001.

I had mine degoated for a almost a whole season. Thought it was just a bit too loud. Went back to stock with the screen like baffles drilled out. Sounds pretty good but I was wondering if the Jardine or any other pipes might be great sounding but not as loud as the degoat modification (I used the Scootworks kit but see now from other posts that the flexpipe works well too). I was considering the Jardines but kinda like the way the stock pipes look.
Regards,
Sam
