niterider 06-06-2010, 11:21 PM How do you get BADD out of that??? Shouldn't it be BABD??
jthill524 06-06-2010, 11:34 PM OOPS!...Mind knew DUMB but Fingers wrote BAD.....Fixed.
How do you get BADD out of that??? Shouldn't it be BABD??
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 12:11 AM i have that in a short sleeve. it gets noticed
denny6006 06-07-2010, 12:42 AM I have the short sleeved one too,I get a lot of dumb stares but at lest they see me.
GIMPYRDR 06-07-2010, 08:53 AM I need one or need to put a strobe on the bike.
jimkonst 06-07-2010, 09:01 AM I'll probably get some flack for this, but I think that if you wear offensive logos on your shirt, you will get a lot more attitude from drivers. This translates inot being cut off, short stopped, and not being given favors in traffic when you ask for them. I am all for beng seen, but I would not try to p*ss off folks. Bikers historically suffer from the bad manners of those who went before them.
Hiker 06-07-2010, 09:14 AM I wouldn't wear that assinine shirt if you paid me to...
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 09:38 AM :loser1::loser1:my s*&tty attitude is none of your f*&king business. it had to be said somewhere
Knifemaker 06-07-2010, 11:14 AM Sio what, you wear one of those over your mesh jacket? , Won't that kind of negate the whole point of the mesh?
If you are just wearing a t shirt while you ride you are already sending a message to some drivers..............
;)
KM
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 11:34 AM knifemaker i understand your position on riding gear but if i wore all the gear all the time i would drive the cage. but i respect your choice to ride your way all i ask is you respect mine.
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 11:41 AM and yes i do understand the risks i undertake it is not just the inattentive drivers it is also wildlife, equipment failures, and road condition among many other things. my wife is an emt she has been trying to get me to wear my gear since i laid down my 82 maxim when the school bus pulled out in front of me. I have a friend who lost the lower half of his left leg when he got broadsided by a truck while riding and a friend who is covered in road rash due to a car cutting across 3 lanes and turning right in front of him. but i still choose to ride the way i do because it is my choice.

I agree with Jim. I'd wear it, without the last line, over my mesh. I'm wearing an orange vest over it now, so I don't see a lot of difference.
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 04:19 PM oh boy, here go again!:boxing::itchy-scr
nope we all agree to disagree. flitecontrol they do make them without the last line they actually have reflective stripes on the front and the words are reflective. the local leather shop here used to sell them, in both versions

All mine says is "can you see me now "on the back.I would not wear the other one either,And I heard Michelle at the Motorcycle Ranch say she wasn't going to stock the others .
vulcanjoe 06-07-2010, 06:47 PM diamond jims caters to the wannabe badass crowd we call them r.u.b's Rich urban bikers. mostly riding customs playing biker on the weekend.

I'm not interested in getting involved with any argumentative nonsense, I'm just curious: what message is being sent to drivers by only wearing a t-shirt?
denny6006 06-29-2010, 06:31 PM I am saying its hot and I live down south and cars have ac.I don't ! as for any other conclusions any body else draws, I can't say.
ruger 06-29-2010, 07:51 PM I'm not interested in getting involved with any argumentative nonsense, I'm just curious: what message is being sent to drivers by only wearing a t-shirt?
well, I'm not sure.
but what if, the person riding the motorcycle is wearing....a helmet, boots, riding jeans and a that same "t-shirt" OVER their riding jacket? what message would that send drivers?
just curious too.
msh1156 06-30-2010, 01:50 PM I'd love to have one without the A-hole part. That's completely unncessary. The color of the shirt and that simple question would be effective enough and yes... I'd wear it.

yes, the A-hole part maybe unnecessary. but then again it is a joke.
as stated before, you can find/order one form "Michelle" at "The Hocking Hills Motorcycle Ranch". Michelle has the ones WITHOUT the A-hole on them and she has both green and orange colored t-shirts. you check out the site and email Michelle to order one at;

ipfreely 07-01-2010, 04:01 PM As someone, who on occasion rides without a helmet, and does ride with a t-shirt on when the weather is in the 80's and 90's, what kind of message am I sending? I cant wait to hear this one.
I see people in cars wearing short shorts, people with no shirts, and people with no shoes, so again, I have to ask, what kind of message am I sending with my t-shirt, jeans, and riding without a helmet? And please dont give me any of that crap about bikers having a bad attitude or sending the wrong message because they might be seen by someone riding without all of their safety gear. I've been riding off and on for the better part of 47 years so choose your words carefully.
gcextreme 07-02-2010, 12:38 AM Oh here we go,deep down into the trenches of the deep "safety & gear wearing" debate.
First of all, this is AMERICA, we have freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of the press, and i think that shirt kinda hits all three!
As far as the whole wearing just a t-shirt or going out in full gear, it's your choice, its part of your freedom!! If you accept the risks and dangers, then go ahead.
But i disagree with the whole "message being sent to drivers by only wearing a t-shirt" bullcrap!! In all reality, those cagers aren't going to give you a second thought if they just see you in a shirt!! Has anyone ever been riding with no helmet and no gear and had someone holler out their window "hey get some protective gear on" ????
I mean really!!!
And if you are wearing that shirt that says A$$hole, do you think they really care??? I highly doubt if i am on my bike wearing that shirt that someone is going to really go out of their way to read what it says and then holler a comment out their window, or try cutting me off or running me down!!
That shirt is meant more for wearing around, like in a bar, or out with friends, or out in general public when you aren't riding your bike. It's just another shirt that people are going to wanna casually read while like at the bar/restaurant or in wal-mart.
But then again, i live in a good wholesome town up here in good ol Minnesota, I don't live out in the rough neck areas of California or Miami where the big bad stereotypical biker gang dudes are, so people around my town just see bikers as normal day usual people.
And vulcanjoe, i dont know where you are going with the whole "urban biker thing" maybe you have seen Wild Hogs too much, lol.
In this scenario you only have two types of bikers??? The bad-ass outlaw biker thugs, and the rich urban city wanna be bikers??? Well crap, what group do i fall in?? I am 26, make less than 40K a year, never even had a speeding ticket, i'm blue collar all the way, dont have any tattoos or piercing, i'm clean cut, come from a true american family with a long history of armed services (my late grandpa a ww2 vet, my uncle in vietnam, my dad in gulf war 1, and my brother a 12yr US marine, over in afghanistan right now on his 3rd tour).
So i'm not rich, i'm your typical young guy, i work hard, and i ride my bike as much as i can, and not just on the weekends.
There are more than just 2 classes of bikers if you're going to split us up like that.
And the whole notion that people think bikers are bad and we have a bad name cuz of those that came before us, well throw that out the door, times are changing, with high fuel prices and the economy, alot more people are riding motorcycles. From lawyers, to preachers, to nurses, to mechanics, to dentists, to college students, and the list goes on and on. Here in Minnesota, and other states, bikers come together to ride and raise money for charities, the vets, and more. We do a county hospice ride every year, this year we had 180 bikers, and we raised over $4500 for the Pope County Hospice, it made the paper and the news. We also raised money for the humane society, our local Vets office, and we recently had a Tornado go thru some of our neighboring towns, and now we are raising money for some families that lost their homes.
Bikers are changing the world, and we are changing the way people see and think about us.
vulcanjoe 07-02-2010, 01:05 AM there are not more than 2 classes there are the type who ride to ride and the type who spend ungodly ammounts of money on their top notch or ironhorse and wear the leather and ride on the weekends my friend. all bikers fall into one of the two i dont know what tattoos have to do with any of it. most bikers are like us my friend but arround here where the income avg is above 100k there are a lot of pretenders and wannabes. wild hogs is real dont forget it art imitates life. i have several friends in 1%clubs they are some of the nicest most caring people you have ever met.

no the two classes are bikers (people who ride because they love to ride like us) and wannabe badasses who spend too much money on a bike as a status symbol and ride it on the weekends to the bar to show it off to their friends. you can usually tell the difference because if it starts raining they run outside in their khaki shorts and flip flops to hurry and move their bikes out of the rain. Now as far as stereotypical thugs I have friends in several clubs (Warlocks, Outlaws, Pagans, Boozefighters, Strength and Honor, and Fire and Iron) strangely enough I do not know one biker thug. A lot of them are lawyers, doctors, around here in the DC area a lot are government contractors. Most are good people with families they take care of each other as brothers would do, and are more than willing to help out in the community for a good cause. Maybe YOU are the one who needs to adjust your view on bikers.
gcextreme 07-02-2010, 09:28 AM vulcanjoe, im not trying to argue, i am just saying its very narrow minded to stick bikers into just 2 groups.
Anyway, yeah i liked the wild hogs movie, but what i am saying is there are more than 2 classes.
When you say "most bikers are like us my friend but arround here where the income avg is above 100k there are a lot of pretenders and wannabes. "
Those are your rich wanna be bikers?? I still think even tho they are rich and spend alot of money on their bikes, i still think they do love to ride, and maybe just because they work alot or are out of town on business alot, maybe that is why they dont get to ride much.
I am a member of ABATE, American Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education, and my local chapter, Freedom First Riders, is full of tons of types of bikers.
There are the rich ones, with like $50K bikes, and they are real nice people, they own local businesses and employ alot of people, but they are also on the road alot for business. Then there are other members, some that are ex-military, from like Vietnam and have all the tattoos and look the part for bad-ass bikers, and the kind that kinda look scary as if they are ex-convicts or something. Then theres the younger guys like me, and a few young couples, we are average day people and you wouldn't be scared to come up to talk with us.
We all love motorcycling, we all have different lives and personalities, but the love of motorcycling brings us together.
I think if you are going to say that there are only two classes of bikers, then the classes should be like this "Those who love to ride, and Those who live to ride" or something like that, lol. Those who "live to ride" would be your hard-core biker people, who live and die by the bike, those are the bad-ass guys that are probably in bad gangs, and make their whole life revolve around motorcycling. The "love to ride" people would be your average people who love to get out and ride with friends, but also have jobs and family, and other responsibilities and know how to prioritize things, and know that yes they love to ride, but there are other things that are way more important.
So in the Wild Hogs movie, the Del Fuegos gang would be the "Ride to live" group and the Wild Hogs guys would be the "love to ride" group. The del fuegos saw them as your urban rich wanna-be bikers, and maybe they we're rich, and the really only did ride now and then and that was their first big road trip, but they still loved riding and didn't wanna be classified as the urban rich wanna be bikers.
By saying there's only two classes, its like saying there's only black and white, and no gray area.
Now we have gotten way off subject of the thread, it was about the T-shirt, and weather or not that sends a bad message.
vulcanjoe 07-02-2010, 05:03 PM but glen the del fuegos dont exist and i am not talking about the ones who genuinely love to ride i am talking about the ones who buy bikes as status symbols ride them to the bar on friday and saturday to show them off and thats it. those are the RUBs I speak of
gcextreme 07-02-2010, 06:32 PM vulcanjoe, yeah i know what you mean. Those who have the money and just want to show it off. I deal with the same thing in the 4wheeling/quad community, you get big shots with lots of money that go out and buy the brand new hot quad racing machine and then they show up at our public riding areas and they don't know how to ride and they don't know rider courtesy and so forth..
But granted i do most of my riding on the weekends too, but i work alot, and i only live like 2 blocks from my business, so i walk most of the time, while other guys i work with, live an hour or so away and they ride their bikes in as much as they can. But here in the snowy minnesota winters, they gotta drive to work in their vehicles in the winter, while i can still walk.
Anyway what i am getting at is, i just put on 2100 miles for the year so far, this other guy i work with, he rides his bike to work an hour and 20 minutes every day almost, he said hes got about 7000 for the year so far.
Does that make me less of a biker?? I don't think so, it just means when i ride i ride for fun, he's doing most of his riding just for transportation to work.
Anyway, i hope you and the rest have a great 4th of july!
vulcanjoe 07-02-2010, 09:26 PM i never said anything about you but the biker thug image is wrong most are middle class professionals anymore not meth trafficing rather beat you down than look at you types

Wow Glen! Only 26, and I wish you were my son. I like your thinking. Actually, I think both my boys have the same attitude as you. Although both have sold their bikes, they used their own common sense when riding. Albeit, my youngest son is in the Marine Corps, and they're required to wear long sleeve shirts, a reflective vest, and a helmet by the nature of their job. At least that's what he told me he was required to do.

Cool. I should point out that what you want is to be noticed...not stared at. A test of drivers showed that if they get fixed on looking at some object not in their path, they have a tendacy to actually drive the car towards it.
So, for safety purposes, you want them to see you and acknowledge your pressence...but not stare at you. You should also avoid giving rides to hot naked chics for the same reason...
KM
theauhawk 12-03-2010, 10:47 PM On a somewhat more serious note....:)
I noticed that in the latest issue of a bike helmet catalogue....that several helmet manufacturers are now (or have been) making helmets available with colors that really do a great job of attracting attention (like bright orange, bright yellow, or fluorescent green)....like AGV, HJC, Shoei, Nolan, Scorpion....and maybe others.
Since the helmet is the highest part of a bike/rider, more & more helmet manufacturers are catering to the idea that a "loud" & solid helmet color will help you get noticed a lot more--and can thus help save your bacon more often.....as opposed to a helmet color that's dark or "neutral"....that mostly blends in with whatever is behind the rider.
The bottom line--some of the helmet makers have apparently decided that a bright-colored helmet not only will protect from serious head injury, cold, heat and rain...but it can also work great as a "passive" safety device--by making the rider much more noticeable in virtually all riding conditions.
LibertyPilot 12-06-2010, 11:25 AM Cool. I should point out that what you want is to be noticed...not stared at. A test of drivers showed that if they get fixed on looking at some object not in their path, they have a tendacy to actually drive the car towards it.

Uh huh. If that was ever a possibility there's no effin' way I'm saying no. The closest I've come is giving a ride to a chick was that washing her car in a bikini. She was rockin' a red and white bikini and shades - that was it. It was a blast. This was pre-Carrie of course. :D
RakerBill 05-10-2011, 05:55 AM I used to have a full faced helmet that was painted to look like a huge eye ball. The eye color was blue like mine, and had the red veins in it and it looked like a real eye.
I had it painted to look straight out the back so the person behind me looked right into the eye.
It was a damned expensive paint job, and I wore it for years, and I have it in storage. I will have to pull it out and post some pics on here.
My next helmet is going to be painted along the same lines, but will be with reflective paint as I ride at night a lot especially for work. And it will be worn with the BADD shirt.

Hey Bill, I was reading some of these old threads and ran across this one. I would love to see some pictures of the "eyeball" painted graphics on your helmet. Any chance of seeing some in the near future?:smiley_th

PaleRider 03-24-2012, 06:04 PM I'll probably get some flack for this, but I think that if you wear offensive logos on your shirt, you will get a lot more attitude from drivers. This translates inot being cut off, short stopped, and not being given favors in traffic when you ask for them. I am all for beng seen, but I would not try to p*ss off folks. Bikers historically suffer from the bad manners of those who went before them.
+1 :smiley_th
