An informal, casual way to do that would be to announce here if you are going to the Easy Rider V Twin Bike Show at the Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Columbus this February, 15-17. That might bring a few of us together.

Yep, we are heading for Florida on Dec 26th, barring any unforeseen delays. Will be on Pine Island near Ft. Myers Jan 1 - Mar. 30. Taking the VN750 & the wife's Honda Helix. Just checked the weather and it is 78 degrees there today! We didn't get to ride much this summer, but hope to make up for that while in FL.

Wecome, weedy1dad. If Arizona were green I would go there.

I have a question for you that perhaps everybody else already knows the answer to.
Why do some folks write online without capitalization or punctuation? Is this because you are using a phone for texting?

antiq
12-23-2009, 03:33 PM
I sometimes end up with all lower case. Simply because I can't really type. I only use my left hand for the shift key. If I'm holding my coffee. no shift key.mmmm ahhh.

Sometimes I use caps and punctuation, but sometimes I don't.. this comes from simply being lazy in my opinion. I have a keyboard attached to my body 16+ hours a day so sometimes I just don't do "the right thing".

If anybody here was at the last one, perhaps you could tell us a good place to meet at the Veterans Center, as far as prominent displays or vending areas. Of course, we could decide to wear something distinctive, not including a long stemmed pink rose.

good idea. I'll be fling blind on this one. we have never been to downtown Columbus before, let alone the Veterans Center.
if this show is ANYTHING like the one we have here in Cleveland, it would be a real good idea for us all to exchange cell #'s. we could pm each other our #'s when it gets closer and we know who is all going. also we could all wear VN750.com shirts too!

Not sure yet. I have run it in the past but the group I used to ride with met at a bar and ran 2 miles down the freeway to the meet. It stopped being fun. If I can find another group that rides longer I will definitely start going again. I also looked into the Brunswick Vulcan Riders Association but I don't want to drive all the way out there for meetings and such so I'll just hang out around here until I find some good friends to cruise with. I am right at the route 44/2 split. Headlands beach area. Having my cam tensioners changed and my carbs rebuilt/jetted but should have the bike back next week :smiley_th

I hear ya! one year we did the run, we started at "Kickers" which is the bar it all started at. the riders were to leave at 11:00 am to start the run. but everybody in the bar was more interested in drinking than riding. so a small group of about 8 riders left and we just followed them. but it was a lame ride too! they just went straight up Lost Nation Road to RT2 and took the freeway to RT44 and got of right at Jackson ST.and rode straight to the fairgrounds. yeah, big fun. not!
I have been told that a place to start is at "Carlton Harley Davidson" at 11771S.R. 44, Mantua Corners.
I don't know if we will "do the run" but we do always go for a ride on that Sunday.

have you checked out the Ridin-On Magazine "Ride 'n' Roll" summer long dice run? we hit a few stops last year and plan on hitting even more stops this year.

That sounds about the same as the experience I had with the run. I started somewhere out that direction too and it was a straight shot to the fairgrounds. About a ten minute ride. One of the Harley's broke down on the way but we kept going. Never heard of the dice run, i'll have to look it up and find out about it. I had my days cut down at work so I only work 3-4 days a week in 10-12 hour shots so there is plenty of time for riding now :motorcycl

what?!....a Harley broke down on a ten minute ride? no way! funny you never hear about that happening to a Vulcan! lol

anyways, have you every heard of "Ridin'on Magazine"? it's a free magazine that you can pick up every month at dealers, bars and other motorcycle places or you can check it out on line at;

the "RIDE 'N' ROLL" summer-long dice run, starts on May 1st and goes to October 1st. it is really a lot of fun to do and it gives you a lot of places to ride to. also, the dice run is free, and with all the time off you should have no problem hitting all the stops! lol

Do they have the magazine at Western Reserve Harley? I haven't been up there in awhile. I was there last spring pricing out a retro style VTX1300 but I found the VN750 that I have now. Just got a call from the mechanic and my gas tank liner is bubbling up so he wants me to put a new lining in it before he will rebuild my carbs. He said some guy in mentor does a redcoat liner for like $150 with a lifetime guarantee. Puts another week on it before i'll ride again. Now we are up to 2-3 weeks before I'll have my bike back :BLAM:

I believe that Western Reserve Harley does. I know Western Reserve Honda does, I've picked up last months issue there. also, you can find them at Mentor, Quaker Steak and Lube or at The Thirsty Camel, in Mentor-on-the-lake.

2-3 weeks now is better that 2-3 weeks in the middle of riding season! right now we are just getting into the rainy season. you wouldn't be missing much riding. I don't get my VN750 out untill after April 1st.

My girlfriend has been pestering me about learning to ride her own bike. I was thinking something like a Suzuki Savage 650 would suit her but how does your wife like the 500? My girlfriend is about 5'2" and somewhere around 110lbs so anything larger is out of the question. That, and she still gets spooked by sharp turns when she gets on the back of mine. Last year was her first time riding a bike and she has never driven one so she doesnt know anything about shifting them or operating a clutch. I was also considering a Hondamatic if I can ever find one. That would eliminate the clutch coordination problem for her.

I will have to check out WRH and see if they have a copy. If not, I eat a lot of wings so I will head over to quaker steak :smiley_th

the Suzuki Savage 650 (single, single or moped) is a great bike. low seat, light weight. it should be a good bike for her to learn on.

my wife loves her vulcan 500. it's smaller and lighter than my vulcan 750, which makes it easier for her to handle than my vn750. the vulcan 500 fits her every well. but, don't let the smallness fool you. that little bike can move! it's just as fast as my vulcan 750!

also, we have a Honda cm400t, which is the same bike as a Hondamatic, but only it has a clutch.

if you want, since we live in the same city, my wife and I could meet you and your girlfriend somewhere and that way you both could check out both bikes (the vulcan 500 and Honda cm400t) this way she could see them up close and get a chance to sit on them and get a feel of what they are both like.

You probably heard of this before but let me just make sure... Take a look around and find one of the Motorcycle Basic Rider courses. They're offered all over Ohio and worth every penny of the $25. Wife and I finally decided to get our motorcycle endorsements and took this class to do it. Figured we'd be a couple of 50 year olds in a parking lot full of 18 year olds. Wow were we wrong. It was full of men and women of all ages. Some people had been riding for 30 years on their training permit, others had been riding for 30 minutes. The biggest problem seemed to be those who had never used a clutch before. It was better if they had a little practice at that before the class but some just stepped up and figured it out on the fly.

I hadn't thought of the class before. I have been riding since a young age so I never needed the class. Just went up and tried the course and was 1 of 7 out of a class of 35 to pass. It was fun to watch guys on V-Rods try to maneuver through the cones. Some of them would hit a cone and just continue driving home cuz they knew they failed. Very entertaining.

A lot of the older riders in my class were just looking to take the test on one of the class-owned smaller bikes. I recommend the course even if you've riden for years.

I'm jealous of your Nomad!! My Grandpa has an older nomad that I used to clean up and show it at bike rally's when I was little and I fell in love with the Nomads. He has made huge changes on his to keep it looking nice and running great but he is somewhere around the 80,000 mile mark and has made several cross country trips on it. It is definitely my dream bike. Someday i'll own one, until then, I've got my 750 :motorcycl

it has snowed up here. but nothing has stuck to the ground. we are too close to the Lake and the ground is still too warm. so we really haven't had a "first snow" yet. I'm talking about 2"-3" (at least) of snow on the ground and roads. you know just enough to make driving in it dangerous. with every person who is on the road has forgotten how to drive in snow although they have lived in Cleveland all their lives!!!! you know, the people who think you can still do 80mph and jump on the brakes and still think the car is going to stop on a dime!....that kind of snow.

The rice patty is a metric bike junk yard in central ohio, its kind of on the corner of grant and e 11 ave in downtown columbus. if your in the area you should check it out, they have a lot of stuff there and really great prices there, at least the last time was there, but that was almost 4 years ago.

what is a "Poker Run"? (man, if I had a nickel for everytime some one asked me that!;)) well, if it's either one of the "Hocking Hills Poker Runs", it will be your BEST ride all year!!!!!:smiley_th

I'm assuming your question is a general inquiry about Poker Runs. I can tell you some generalities about them.

Poker Runs are used to generate income for some event or charity.

People who participate in poker runs usually pay a fee from $5 to $20 per "Hand" to participate.

The "Hand" is usually based upon the game of 5 card poker. The participants ride their motorcycles from stop to stop collecting up to five cards trying to build the best winning hand of the game.

At the end of the route, which may be anywhere from a few miles to a hundred miles long the "Hands" are collected and compared by a judge who declares the winner. The winner may collect either money or some thing of value for winning.

As these events have been declared gambling in many states, they are technically illegal, so many event planners have changed their rules to make it more of a lottery thus circumventing the law and allowing the winner to claim a prize.

Normally the money collected is donated to some charitable event or agency, or directly to a family recently stricken by some tragedy. Rarely do the organizers keep the money for themselves.

Diamondjim05
01-16-2011, 08:05 PM
I was up there in january or february of 2010 on my post deployment leave and it seemed like a corporate take over was in effect. It seems like once the lowes went in down by 104, everything followed in suit. Actualy, it was probably the walmart that came in over there across from the lowes. Since i was up there in januray of 2010, me, my wife and daughter had made several trips there, each time there seemed to be a new store or restuarant. I guess that is the nature of the beast though. I grew up when you crossed 270 at stringtown it was just open field until you got to 104. Times change, i guess so does the scenery

I think I make 31!
Got a 04 vn750 last fall. Working on getting it to start better. (Sea foam, plugs are done, battery on order)
I live in Massillon, Oh.
Ready to retire from National Guard next spring! Too bad I am way to young to retire my civilian job. (Driving an 18 wheeler in the winter kind of sucks!)

smithh,
I sound like a broken record saying this, but when I experienced some starting probs, someone suggested I clean all the ground wires on my bike. I took each one off (one to the frame the other on the block) and sanded the wire as well as where it connected to. Made a world of difference. I would suggest you do the same when you replace your battery.

Dayton Ohio here......

Ruger,
You know what would be REALLY cool? If we could put together some sort of Google map with locations of all our Ohio Vulcan brothers! That way, we can see approximate locations of fellow bikers close to us.

Whaddyathink?

I should have check on here and seen if you were up for a beer at Jackass Flats! but not to worry, I will be coming back down that way in August! reminded me and maybe we can get together for a beer at Jackass Flats. ruger,
I think it can be done pretty easily. The only thing we need is the city where all the Ohio folks live and we can make a spreadsheet with the names and city and import it to this site;
http://www.batchgeo.com/

Uploading the info to the site makes a Google map of the area with pointers to the locations of everyone. May not be perfect, but looks like a good place to start. Maybe someone else knows a better system???

Let's do it.

Springboro, Ohio here.
