: Updating Vulcan Verses, consolidating more current information
fergy 10-05-2009, 12:31 PM We got some discussion going (kind of hijacked) on another thread on this subject so I thought it was appropriate to open a thread to discuss this.
There have been a lot of write-ups and procedures that have been developed or enhanced over the years that I think should be a part of the Vulcan Verses, or a new version of the Verses. There is so much information that has gotten buried over the years with the large amount of posts and it has gotten hard to find when someone new asks the "same old question" so to speak. Some of the information on the Verses is dated, to say the least, and of course some of it is just as useful as day one. I don't know how hard a job it would be to try to update this information and add some new threads etc. but I think it would enhance the experience for the members. I would do what ever I could to help...
EasyRector 10-05-2009, 12:40 PM I think that this is a good idea.
And perhaps my contribution can be the oil-changing procedure! I've kept it updated, incorporating the wisdom and experience of the site members.

skalding 10-05-2009, 12:52 PM It might be easier to create a new board, or sub-forum, or whatever.
We could start threads about certain topics (like seat modifications for example), everyone could dump the most useful things they have in there, and then each thread could be condensed or added to the Verses.
Or each of us could volunteer to take a topic and search the site until we find the threads that apply to it. Then just cut and paste and post it up for everyone to review.
There are some things like color coded pictures of the wiring diagrams that should also go into the Verses.

I hate running through threads to get to Certain pics or procedures we have done ... I think a subforum is a great Idea maybe lay it out like the chiltons,
We need to incorperate an outline with links to specific procedures...
I also think a localized chat box it was a great idea and it would have takin off it it was written into the forum chatango has an app to add to html !
who writes the html codes for the site?
on the site should be incorperated maybe even set up a meeting of the minds on forum construction/layout and outlines ect...
attached was a word document i had to save as text to fit
maybe pass out an outline and let people tinker with and add or remove
I think we need to keep it simple and easy to access also full of pics and procedures ....

As a new member, I couldn't agree more. Pertinent info is very difficult to find and, as Fergy said, "buried" I, too, would be willing to help in any way.
Segway: 7000 members??? How many are active? How many if we started over?
fergy 10-05-2009, 03:11 PM I honestly think the Verses layout is good, however dated. The problem is that the information contained in the Verses is missing important a lot of current stuff. For instance, if you look at Specs and General VN-Info/Torque Values, you get a tiny list of torque specs and we all know there is a post from Dianna floating around that lists an entire table of torque values for our bike. If this thread was just updated with the current information, it would be golden. Or look at Specs and General VN-Info/So you bought a used VN750 - now what?
This would be a perfect spot to post the information from OldHossCanada's sig...
If we could only get the current information added to the Verses, and remove old stuff that is either wrong or not recommended, like Tire goo to avoid flats? Messy, but might just work--under "The Least You Should Know" thread... We all know that anything but Ride-On isn't recommended...
Here's something else I just ran across. Har(d)ley Davidson crush gaskets for the exhaust once you change it out. Nothing else is as thick and works as good... At least not anything I remember hearing about. This is also in the "The Least You Should Know" thread. Is it true, the Harley gaskets are thicker? There has been discussion on the right crush gaskets to use, and over the last year, most have recommended the KAW gaskets for their outer diameter being larger, but if the Harley gaskets are really thicker, maybe that could explain why some of our members are getting some popping after installing the V&H Cruisers, even after marbling... I have the Harley gaskets on mine and have never had a popping issue...
Anyway, I'm thinking that a good house cleaning of the Verses and adding all the pertinent, more current writeups and information would be a real good start!

Ha! Yours is the popper I was talking about. You snuck in your post while I was typing my book. If you look at the member search feature and type in Texas, or TX, or Fl, etc. you can see how many members from that state etc. You'll see an awful lot of members join and never post.
theauhawk 10-05-2009, 05:12 PM A most excellent idea, Fergy...
Dmag, Dianna....what say you......???
skalding 10-06-2009, 08:39 AM Fergy - the actual layout for the verses is fine. I was just suggesting a dedicated board with threads to update topics. Then you could cut and paste that stuff into the verses.

Great idea! I guess I miss-understood your first post, but this is a great idea.
