: First Ride on Blue ridge Parkway -- VA
ataglancemotorsports 09-21-2009, 08:58 PM Hi all,
This past weekend had a great time riding my 95 VN 750 on the Blue ridge Parkway -- This was the first time I had driven it long distance since completing the bottom end replacement due to balancer gear shearing off of previous engine --
In the Process of the lower end replacement -- I replaced the balancer gear dampers -- replaced camshafts -- performed ear shave -- rejetted carbs and installed unifilter pod filters on carbs --
Engine is running fabulous -- I am riding it almost every day just because I can. Thank you so much everyone for your help and advice with my VN 750 -- I am glad that this site is here and the people here are so helpful.
Thanks again and I look forward to years of riding ahead of me.
hyperbuzzin 09-21-2009, 10:34 PM What.... no pics of the B.R. ride???
Good to hear ya got it running :motorcycl
rubyrick 09-21-2009, 10:35 PM I bet that ride was incredible! I'm looking for pics, too!

rubyrick 09-21-2009, 11:05 PM Nice pics. Must be nice up in the mountains with the 750.
OlHossCanada 09-21-2009, 11:06 PM WOW, the blues in pic #2 really live up to the name!!
Nice looking bike too. Is that seat a Mustang?
I have a hard time telling the different aftermarket exhaust systems apart in pics. Is yours V&H, Jardine or ??
What is your buddy riding? I`m not sure of bikes or cars anymore either, unless I can read the name on them.
ataglancemotorsports 09-21-2009, 11:12 PM RubyRick -- Mountains are beautiful.. It was an amazing day. Weather was perfect and views were awesome.
Olhoss -- Yes it is a mustang seat -- I also have Cobra Exhaust. Seat is amazingly comfortable. Had no problems keeping up with my buddy -- He is driving a 2000 Harley Davidson Dynaglyde 1500 -- It was his father in laws -- he died last year and left it to him. It has close to 90,000 Miles -- it was a daily driver for him. It was a difficult drive for my buddy because that was one of the trips the 2 of them did together every year.
rubyrick 09-22-2009, 12:04 AM Sorry to hear of your buddy's circumstance. His father-in-law would be pleased to see his daily ride being used by the one he chose to leave it to, especially on a commemorative ride like the one you took. I can see how special that ride must have been to the two of them.
mgough983 09-22-2009, 09:40 AM Thanks for sharing the pics. I think I could see my house in one of them, or at least the mountain in front of it. I live at the foothills of the BRP in NC, and sometimes you take for granted the things that are familiar to you. I have a 94 model with 28K+ miles and the majority of them were from riding on the BRP from Roanoke, VA to the southern end near Cherokee, NC, and everywhere in between. Let me know when you're going to be that way again, maybe we could ride a few miles together. The bike looks great.
hyperbuzzin 09-22-2009, 10:55 AM Been quite awhile since I've been around that area, but it cetainly is some riding I'll never forget!!
Love them twisties!!!!

Hey, thanks for the great pics. I've driven over there once. Was dying for the bike the whole time!
ataglancemotorsports 09-22-2009, 11:46 AM Mgough -- My wife is from Mt Airy NC -- We go down there quite often to visit her parents and her ex inlaws. We are planning a trip to Mabry mills in october. I will try to remember to let you know in case you want to meet us up there.
ataglancemotorsports 09-22-2009, 11:48 AM Joem -- I was up on parkway last fall -- I had a 82 Kawasaki KZ440ltd last year and there was a miscommunication and I was not informed that we were taking bikes -- So I was in my wifes van. I was KICKING myself the whole day. I wont make that mistake again. ha. My 440 was underpowered but my VN is awesome. Perfect ride for us.
ataglancemotorsports 09-22-2009, 11:50 AM Hyperbuzzin -- It is worth living in this area so I can ride the parkway. I cant wait til fall sits in so we can do the whole changing of the leaves on the parkway. Thats going to be awesome. I am not looking forward to winter but the fall is NICE....

Living there would be so nice!! And especially in the fall!!
We have some nice roads around this area of PA, but nothing quite like Skyline/Blue Ridge.

Hey AtLast.....
How does the 750 handle the twisties??
I'm back in Coastal Ga now so it will be a while before I get back up to NC to find out for myself...
Do you drag bottom on sharp curves?
Thanks...Grits

I know, I know, this thread has some age but I gotta say it. I had a birthday last Tuesday, the 19th, and the wife and I suited up and rode the Blue Ridge Parkway for about 6 hours that day. It was absolutely great weather and unusually high temps (low 50's).
ataglance just let me know when you are going to be around. I would love to ride with a fellow VN750 owner.
ataglancemotorsports 01-23-2010, 03:58 PM That is awesome. I love being close to the blue ridge parkway. I cant wait to get out and ride this spring.
I am glad you had a good ride. Awesome day for it.
rckmtn 01-23-2010, 09:10 PM I lived back east for a while and the BRPW was one of the most beatiful places I found. We took 2 weeks and traveled in the motorhome from Dayton Oh. to the parkway and south to Ashville and then back to crossville Tn. Saw my folks for a few days and then back to Dayton. In the 2 years I was with UDRI it was the most scenic trip we took.

If you are ever back east and wanna go for a spin, let me know. I live near the BRP and the North Carolina and Virginia border. I have over 30K on the VN750 and the majority of those were on the Parkway or getting to and from it. It's a good place to learn to ride the twisties :motorcycl It's a great place to let off some steam and get in touch with the "real" world.
rckmtn 01-24-2010, 10:39 PM Thanks for the invite. I've got about 3-4 ytears till retirement and who knows where we'll pass through them. If you ever make it to Cheyenne give me a shout. If we can't ride I will at least buy you a brew.
