Took off for some deserted roads Sunday for what turned into a 500-miler. Road after road after road!

Old Coalinga Road.

Parkfield Grade.

Parkfield is dirt for 4.5 miles. Passable by any bike, as long as it's dry.

Saw a few of these. Nice!

Ate lunch at the Parkfield Cafe (yum!). Good food, decent prices. There was a small Harley group there, about the only bikes I saw all day. The rest of the time, didn't see anyone (bike OR car), either direction. Imagine riding hundreds of miles of deserted backroads, ZERO traffic! Was wonderful!

The San Andreas Fault goes right through Parkfield.

Kept rolling, Cholame Road, Highway 41, Highway 229, Highway 58. All of that led me to:

Magnificent Desolation.

Endless rolling hills, vast vistas, open grasslands stretching to the distant horizon. Bitterwater road is the place to be.

After that, just took the freeway home, about 180 miles of yawn. Total ride about 500 miles in 10 hours. Gear up, let's RIDE!

Wow, that's a long ride and great pictures (except for the "Pavement Ends" sign, that always makes me nervous).

That San Andreas fault sign, is that a warning that once you cross the bridge you are on the side that is supposed to fall off into the ocean? :p
What a great day trip! Makes me wanna ride... By the way, September 1st, I am officially a full time rider again. And what a perfect, cool morning ride it was today. It is like the blistering summer we've had came grinding to a halt over the last few days. Yesterday it only got up to 91. Its like a cold front! Already planning a day trip for Saturday... I'm praying it stays!

Being layed-off, and in need of a battery I can't afford right now, your pics help quench the need for
some clear back roads, twisties and no traffic!! :motorcycl
Thanks for the fix, EQ!! It's greatly appreciated!! :beerchug:

After being off work and no riding for over 14 months, those pictures remind me a lot of the country roads I often travel at work, in the foothills west of here. Thanks for the fix!
