Some other forums I visit, at the bottom of each post, next to the quote, and other buttons, have a thank you button.
Some people like them, some think they're highly stupid. They always seem to get used alot....
You read something that was helpful and informative, you click the button to slap a thank you on the thread to whom-ever made the particular post. Neat idea, saves a little time, and you don't have to write out/post a thank you note. (though you still can if you choose)
Some forums go as far as having an indicator under the user names to show how many times they have "thanked" or been "thanked". We have the a similar system already in use here, (reputation system) but the thank you button puts the "thanks" on the thread.
I see it all around lately, at a variety of different topic forums, including other bike sites, and just thought I'd post the suggestion.
