summer is here in tx and i have been riding a lot. just recently, my bike started making this high pitched noise(like the noise when you pour water onto an alternator). I hear it when in first gear and also in second. but by the time i am in third gear it stopped. it does not do it every time but was just wondering what it was. i use 10w40 oil and the oil level is good. what do you fellas think it is? thanks ya'll-tim

Could be lots of things. Is it a whinning noise or a grinding noise? One thing that comes to mind is the high pitched rattle that sometimes my baby makes when I first start her up and the choke is on and the cam chain starts rattling a bit. It stops once I start moving.
Does this noise happen continuously in 1st and 2nd gear, or does it only happen initially until you get to 3rd, and then not return?

Does it do this when the bike is hot, or just when you start it up after it has sat awhile?
Sounds like classic "coffee grinder" symptoms. But they usualy go away quickly. What oil are you using and when you change it last?
Could possilbly be a worn clutch, but I would try a differnt oil and make sure the clutch lever is adjusted properly.
If it only happens when you first start out with a "Cold" bike, let the bike warm up a bit longer and squeeze the clutch lever in and out a few dozen times while waiting for the bike to warm up and see if that helps.
