Is it normal to be able to downshift from 2nd directly into Neutral? For some reason I thought that the only way to get into Neutral was UP - from 1st.

I get it both ways, usually when I don't want to!

I can get mine into N from 2nd, though it's much easier going up from 1st.

You darn near need to be sitting still to do it but it's normal coming from either direction.

I do it all the time. specially when pulling up to lights

When it has happened, it's always been either slowing down or with the clutch engaged all the way. Cool. I'm glad to hear that it's a normal occurrence. Thanks for the confirmation.

that's what I like bout this bike neutral is easy to find when you need it. and when you don't want it, it aint there, you skip right over it

Is this a pretty standard thing with all brands? I thought that the little honda I road during the MSF course could only get to neutral from 1st. But it's been long enough for my memory to be wrong

The little honda I learned to ride on the only way to get to neutral was to go to 1st. the shift pattern on the bike was neutral was to go all the way UP and then 1 thru 3 were down. So getting used to having to pull up for 2 thru 5 was a little weird.

Well every bike I have owned or rode you could shift down to neutral. On some it took a soft touch to avoid going to 1st. When I first started riding I would shift to N before a stop and "coast" in. I can do this on my Yamaha too, but I have learned it is better to stay in gear at all times.

I think there was even a blurb in the Vulcan manual NOT to coast with the engine running (so it is OK with the engine off?)

Safety wise , stay in gear at all time while on the road, this way if something happens you will be able to take off if needed.

I do sometimes click it into neutral while waiting for a light. but only if there is already a line of cars STOPPED behind me.

I just fell into the deal when I bought this bike. I didn`t do one minute of research, and I couldn`t have found a better bike if I had spent a month online doing detective work. I did not know that Kawis were the only bikes with a positive neutral finder. It just keeps getting better, the more I learn about it.:smiley_th

I've had many bikes, dirt, dual sport, now street and as to my knowledge they can all go into neutral either way. It depends on the pressure that is put on the shift when you're pressing down. The reason that we usually shift down to 1st then to neutral is because it's easier to remember where neutral is if we're down at 1st then we know it is 1/2 up.
